Chapter 3 talks about Jesus’ arrival to earth, which was anything but expected. God come to earth in to poor parents with a feed trough for a bed. Seriously? Yep.

In light of this truth, why has the church put so much emphasis on seminary education and college degrees for those who lead (specifically preachers)? Does this preoccupation with education violate the open secret of the gospel in any way? Why or why not, and what are the implications for the church?

I knew from the minute I started writing “The Jumbo Shrimp Gospel” that I wanted to start a conversation about the subject matter of the book–a conversation that will inspire people to live out the gospel. So there are two avenues for you to join in the conversation:

The JSG Blog. I will post discussion questions related to the chapters in the book. If you subscribe to the blog through a feed, you’ll be automatically updated as to when the discussion will start. The conversation will take place in the comment section of each post.
